Common Parts to a Conventional Septic System

Wastewater Flow from Inside Dwelling

Household Plumbing

As a homeowner, it is important to maintain a well-functioning plumbing system that functions in tandem with your septic tank. From drain cleaning to fixture repairs or installations through your local plumber.

Septic Tank

Septic tanks are designed with durability and functionality in mind. There are both plastic and concrete options to meet your specific needs. The septic tank is essentially an underground chamber that collects, stores, and treats wastewater from your household. For those not connected to a municipal sewage system, a septic tank is an essential component of any plumbing system.

Drain Field/Leaching Bed

A septic drain field is an essential part of your septic system. It consists of a network of pipes that are buried beneath the surface of your yard. Once wastewater leaves your home and enters your septic tank, it is then processed and sent to the drain field. The drain field is designed to filter and treat the water by allowing it to percolate and absorb back into the soil.

Outlet Baffle: slows the flow of the waste and blocks solids from leaving the tank

Effluent: the partially treated sewage/liquid that exits the septic tank

Outlet Pipe: carries the effluent to the drainage field

Sewer Line: takes the waste water from the home's main drain to the septic tank

Sludge: the solids that sink to the bottom of the septic tank and remain trapped in the tank

Scum: the top layer within the septic tank that remains trapped in the tank.

Septic Inspections

Understanding the importance of septic inspections in maintaining a clean, proper functioning septic system is crucial and often the first step toward repairs or a new system.  A septic inspection offers a comprehensive solution to any issues with your septic system and will enable us to diagnose any problems and work to fix them if possible. We’ll also provide suggestions for long-term solutions to keep your septic system functioning properly or if necessary, we will explore options for a new system

Septic Designs

After your inspection is complete, we will then need to work to prepare and submit a septic system application which includes a professional design for new installations or repairs in accordance with the Ontario Building Code. We will obtain permits and coordinate with local authorities, including local Health Units, Conservation Authorities and Municipalities throughout the process and for inspections, ensuring that everything runs smoothly from start to finish.

Repair & Maintenance

Septic systems are an important part of any property’s infrastructure. Proper maintenance and repair are essential to ensure that your septic system runs smoothly and efficiently. We understand that unexpected septic issues can be frustrating and disruptive, which is why we offer a range of reliable, cost-effective services designed to keep your septic system in optimal condition.

Optional Septic Repair & Maintenance Items

Septic Lids and Risers
Septic Lids & Risers

A septic lid is a cover for the opening of your septic tank that provides easy access for cleaning and maintenance. Invest in septic lids and risers for added safety and functionality for your septic system.

SludgeHammer

An aerobic bacterial generator that fosters the growth of a specialized bacteria right in the septic tank.

Effluent Filter

An effluent filter is the perfect solution for septic system owners looking to protect their investment. Designed to catch solids and particles that can cause damage and backups, these filters help to keep your system running like new.

Distribution Box

The distribution box is responsible for evenly distributing wastewater throughout the drain field.

Pump Chamber

The pump chamber may be a necessary component of your septic bed dispersal system. A pump chamber is built to handle the job and ensure the safe and effective distribution of wastewater while preventing clogs and backups.

Grease Trap

A grease trap limits the amount of grease entering the septic tank. Unfortunately, grease and soap are not broken down by the bacterial action.
